A note from Chris

Dear Friend,

Does what I do really matter? With each passing year, it’s a fundamental question I have to ask myself. Then I read your letters; and frankly all of us here get choked up and teary-eyed.

In 1995, if you had told me that I would still be hosting the Chris Dudley Basketball Camp today I would never have believed you. It has been an unforgettable THIRTY YEARS.

For me, the most terrifying thing I have ever faced in my life has been diabetes. But through the Chris Dudley Basketball Camp and all the wonderful people at the foundation, I have found my way, through the DUDLEY CAMP FAMILY that I will remember and cherish for a lifetime.

My biggest hope was that all youth who attended CDBC realized that they could play basketball or – do anything else that they dream of – even with diabetes. I completely underestimated the transformative power of the camp “FAMILY” atmosphere. I didn’t comprehend how meaningful it would be for campers to see that they are not alone. There are many other kids with type 1 diabetes going through the same battles that we all endure. It is that live connection at CDBC that unites us together with unbreakable bonds. Something magical happens when you create an environment where everyone feels comfortable and confident in their own skin. At CDBC, we talk about leaving our “cool jackets” at home, and I am always amazed at just how awe-inspiring these kids truly are.

When our surveyed campers report their camp experience rates “excellent” for fun, diabetes care, quality of staff, relationships, plus that they can’t wait to return, I know we’re still accomplishing something extraordinary.

Now that it is three decades later, I am also so grateful to each of you for all you do to support the Chris Dudley Foundation.

What we’re doing really does matter – a lot; and knowing I can depend on your help makes it all worthwhile. Your tax-deductible support turns camp into a lifetime and a legacy for entire families.

Happiest of Holidays,
